Personalised wedding jewellery to celebrate love story

Indian weddings are becoming more bespoke than ever with customised trousseaus and made-to-order outfits. Bridesmaids are also personalising their jewellery. The trend includes matching dresses paired with necklaces and bracelets with their initials. Personalised elements like initials, symbols, and milestone dates are being incorporated into wedding attire and accessories for both the bride and groom.

Indian weddings are becoming more bespoke than ever before, thanks to brides and grooms opting for personalised trousseaus that include made-to-order outfits and jewellery. Kaleeras, necklaces and bracelets are getting the most attention as they get crafted with initials and symbols that are meaningful to the wearers.

For their weddings in 2023, Athiya Shetty and Kiara Advani both opted for jewellery that referenced their personal lives.
“Couples personalise their wedding jewellery and outfits by adding personal elements that will stay as a memory with them for a lifetime,” says Trupti Lalwani, a wedding planner.
Narrating a love story through kaleeras

Both Athiya and Kiara has pesonalised kaleeras, and like them, brides are opting for customisations that reflect their love story. For example, Sunayna Sahni opted for personalised
kaleeras
that reflected the couple’s story, their wedding hashtag, and their dreams, among others, through seven charms.
“Many brides like to dedicate
kaleeras
to their love story. Little elements about each other, precious moments from their time together – like the first date or the proposal, tribute to a beloved pet, parents’ initials, grandparents’ pictures as blessings – form a part of the bespoke journey,” says
Mrinalini Chandra, a bespoke kaleera and jewellery designer.

Bridesmaids are personalising their jewellery

Apart from the bride and the groom, the trend of getting personalised jewellery has also spread to other family members and friends. More and more bridesmaids are going for matching dresses that can be paired with necklaces and bracelets with their initials. “The goal is to create a memorable and personal wedding experience for the entire bridal party," says Meghna Sareen, a jewellery designer.
Ways to personalise your wedding look

  • The groom can choose wedding attire that has his name embossed. According to designer Aniket Satam the groom may also incorporate a motif from the embroidery of the bride’s sari into his sherwani. Accessories can be personalised for grooms. These include the tie, turban or cufflinks, all of which can be coordinated with the bride’s outfit
  • Brides can also emboss their own name or their partner’s name on their lehenga, blouse, or dupatta. Some brides also like to design their lehengas with relationship milestones like the first date to the wedding date
  • Those who want to go sustainable can repurpose their mom’s sari or family heirlooms as jewellery.
